Hello my dear fellow witches, wizards and muggles! In honor of the birthday of Harry Potter we’ve played some magic chess and drank some bewitching butterbeer ??♀️
You know I am a huge Harry Potter fan, have read all the books and have been several times to the universal studios in Orlando to see Hogsmead, the castle and Diagon alley in real! Actually we would have visit it this year again but sadly thats not possible cause of covid-19.
Nevertheless that’s why we‘ve recreated this iconic drink! Homemade butterbeer!
If you know Harry Potter then you know all about Butterbeer, which can be served hot, cold or frozen! This is the hot version!
What magical ingredients do I need to make this?
Makes 4-6
- 1,5 cup brown sugar
- 4 tbsp water
- 6tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp rum extract
- 4 scoops vanilla ice cream +1 cup sparkling water mixed together in a blender (if you don’t have cream soda)
- 3/4 cup milk
For the butterscotch sauce:
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar and water and bring to gentle boil and cook until it has a temperature of 120°C measured with a cooking thermometer. Add the butter, salt, vinegar and 1/4 cup of heavy cream, set aside and let it cool. Add the rum extract.
Next whip together 2 tbsp of the butterscotch sauce mixture and 1/2 cup of heavy cream, beat until thickened, but not completely stiff.
Heat the milk and 1/4 cup of cream (don’t let it boil) add 1/2 cup of butterscotch sauce and stir until incorporated. Take off heat. Add the cream soda (or the ice cream sparkling water mixture) to taste and serve with the whipped topping. Cool the leftover butterscotch sauce.
Enjoy and imagine sitting in the three broomsticks, served by the wonderful Madam Rosmerta!
